Ideology: Exploring Different Ways of Thinking

Issue Question: Should ideology be the foundation of identity?

Key Issue: On which beliefs and values should my ideology be based?

Duration: 3 blocks (80 mins each + homework)

In lessons 1 and 2 you learned about and reflected on your own beliefs and values.  They make up your ideology - a system of thought based on beliefs and values that include ideas about how the world works, how we should live together as a society, and what society could become.   This course is centred around this main concept of Ideology.  When exploring an ideology the following questions should be answered:

1. What are humans like, and why do they act the way they do?

2. What is the nature of society?

3. What is our role as individuals in society?

A person's beliefs and values are usually rooted in the ideas of individualism or collectivism, of which you will learn in this lesson.
