"The Bicycle"
1. A "motif" can be repeated words within a piece of literature. In "The Bicycle", the word "choice" appears recurrently, but in different contexts. Read the story closely, looking for this word.
- When and how is it used?
- What patterns do you notice in the way it is used?

2. At the beginning of the story, Tante Rose says to Hannah, "One day you will understand how all choices are made." To what extent is this true at the end of the story?
3. What kinds of sacrifices was Hannah making in order to achieve her goals?
By the end of the story, what had she sacrificed?
What had she gained?
