UNIT 3

Do you need an income, but are not interested in working in retail, fast food, or other typical jobs for teenagers?

Teenage entrepreneurs ('Treps) are drawing a lot of attention. When you were young, did you ever run a lemonade stand? Have you ever babysat, cut your neighbour's lawn, or shovelled their sidewalks and earned money for it? If so, you were, in essence, working as an entrepreneur. An entrepreneur is someone who builds and operates his/her own business.

In order to be a successful entrepreneur, you need to find a niche or demand in your community and then build your business around it. Understand that there is risk involved in entrepreneurship. If you operate a lawn care business, you will need to purchase equipment. If you are babysitting, you will need to become certified in First Aid and CPR. It may take time to build a small business, but if you are doing something you love and are successful at it, it will be worth the risk!
