Key Concepts
When drawing alcohols from an IUPAC name, follow the steps below.

Draw and number the carbon atoms of the parent chain.

Add the hydroxyl group(s) at the locations specified in the IUPAC name.
- If you are drawing a structural diagram, complete the bonding by adding H atoms to the carbon atoms so that each carbon atom forms four bonds. If you are drawing a line structural diagram, remember that the intersections and ends of the lines represent the carbon atoms. Hydrogen atoms are not indicated, but the hydroxyl groups are shown.
