In Module 3, you learned that a change in enthalpy is linked to a change in potential energy. But can differences in potential energy be actually measured in the lab? The answer to this question is that the potential energy changes of a system cannot be directly measured, rather they have to be inferred from temperature changes that occur in the surroundings as a chemical reaction proceeds.
