Resources and Referencing

Research

You will be asked to research a certain topic in this course. In many ways, the internet makes research very easy and accessible. However, not all information on the internet is recent, accurate, or reliable. Once you have found an article, video, or site that you think will be helpful for your research, run it through the CRAAP test.

Referencing

It is important to include the resources that you used for your paper or project so that your reader knows you used credible sources. At higher levels of education, you will be asked to use a particular style such as APA or MLA when providing in-text citations or reference lists. In Biology 20, you must have a reference list that includes all of the resources you consulted for your paper. Although you are not required to follow MLA or APA, your list should be in alphabetical order by last name of the author and each reference should include
  • the author (Last Name, First Initial)
  • the date of the publication, if available (if the date of your publication is not available, be wary of this source)
  • the title of the publication
  • the URL or journal name that the resource was retrieved from
