Lesson 1: Reflection

You have arrived at the end of this course!
Let's give a final thought to some of the course concepts - consider the following breakdown of the letters in the word "PROPAGATION" as a trigger to help you remember the concepts involved.

P  Propagation Methods - seeds, cuttings, division, layering, grafting
R  Roots, Stems, Leaves, Flowers, Fruit, Seeds - the parts of a plant
O  Oxygen - a necessity of life, produced for us by plants
P  Photosynthesis - harnessing the sun's energy to sustain plant life
A  Ailments of Plants - deficiencies, pests, and diseases
G  Greenhouses - efficient plant propagation operations
A  Agronomy - field crop production and soil management
T  Temperature - a critical factor in plant growth and propagation
I  Indoor Planting - the solution to lengthening the growing season
O  Outdoor Planting - seedling plants must first be hardened off

Now think of the many careers that are related to plant propagation; there are probably many that you haven't thought about.

For example, have you thought about what a career as an Arborist would be like?

What do you think an Entomologist does?

Perhaps a career as a Soil Scientist is one that you would like to pursue.

Think about a career that you feel you would be suited to and would enjoy exploring; you will need to apply your thoughts in the final assignment on the next page.
