Agriculture Safety Orientation
Agriculture Safety Orientation
What is an Agriculture Safety Orientation?
Your first day on the job you will receive a job safety orientation. It is usually a workerβs first opportunity to thoroughly tour the farm, learn about the policies and processes and meet other workers. You will learn Emergency Response
protocols, basic PPE requirements and basic safety awareness specific to your role and the farm environment.
Every agricultural environment has a unique geography, culture and business structure. Farmers look at the big picture and adapt to the challenges as they come. If anything, farming is as adaptive as the natural environment it works within.
Agriculture safety requires the ability to understand the foundational concepts, be consistently aware of the surroundings and adapt quickly to changing conditions.
- Identify and describe different hazards found in the agriculture area.
- Recognize
and incorporate hazard identification, risk assessment and hazard
control for animal management, equipment and agricultural chemicals.
- Demonstrate an understanding of standards/legislated practices associated with agriculture health and safety of Fire Safety, Electrical Safety, Ladder Safety, Confined Space Safety, and Chemical Safety.
- Apply your foundational safety knowledge to practice in relevant agricultural environments.
