Approaching Animals
Before you ever approach any animal, take the time to learn about animal behaviour. This will be your best preparation. Then ....
Approach calmly. Speak softly.
Never approach an animal in its blind spot. If you must approach from the rear, do so at an angle so that the animal will still be able to see you coming.
Minimize shadows and bright spots, and allow animals time to become accustomed to new surroundings.
Many animals like to sniff you. Let them.
Ensure all animal handling systems (e.g., chutes, etc.), are in good repair.
