This course is designed to teach you how to analyze and compare the natural, cultural, and recreational attractions available in Alberta and Canada while developing strategies for maintaining the well-being of guests. The instruction is broken into 5 Units followed by a two-part final project.

This course does have a prerequisite.

Students must have complete TOU1010: The Tourism Sector prior to this course. If you have not yet done this, please contact your school distance education facilitator to rectify your registration.




Upon successfully completing this course you will receive one introductory level senior high credit in TOU1070 Tourism The Attractions Industry.

There are no special materials or equipment necessary to complete this course. However, it is important to understand that this course is only delivered online so you will need access to a computer with the Internet.




As with all Alberta Education CTS courses, Tourism - The Attractions Industry should take about 16-25 hours to complete. This includes all readings and the final project.

If students have not submitted any assignments to ADLC within 60 days from the registration date or their last submitted assignment, they will automatically be withdrawn from the course.




There are 5 Self-assessment Journal Entries, one after each Unit worth 10 marks each. Provided you submit a complete personal journal entry, you will receive the full 10 marks for each journal entry. The combination of Journal Entry marks will constitute 10% of your final course grade.

After completing the 5 units, there is a two-part Final Project. Since this is a project-based course with numerous components, it is worth 90% of your course mark

The ADLC Career and Technology Studies department has a policy that states students must receive a passing grade of 50% or better in ALL assignments in order to be awarded a final grade and receive credit.  Any assignments where students receive a mark below 50% will be asked to resubmit that assignment.
