Lesson 12: Tourist Informational Needs

"To be human, you've got to want. It makes you smarter and stronger." ~ Dan Groat

Upon entering a destination, it is important to inform visitors of essential information. This should be given at the entry point to the destination as well as periodically reinforced. In terms of tourist needs, we're mostly talking about the basic necessities. Tourists' wants may include added features such as historical references, an education component, or options that achieve a fuller destination experience.

Ideally, a visitor information program enhances visitor enjoyment, entices them to stay longer and therefore, to spend more money by providing more information about the destination's offerings. Through collaboration with the business community, the public and the attractions necessary to establish and operate a visitor information program will strengthen the DMO's value to the local community.
