Helpful Resources

Several virtual students have shared their work throughout the course. You will see how they approached assignments and how their assignments were marked. You can view their autobiographies on the Meet Your Virtual Classmates page.

Throughout the course, you may see vocabulary that is in red. Clicking on these terms will reveal a definition of the word. You can also view the glossary online anytime, by clicking on the Glossary in the Resources menu bar at the top of this page. Keep your Sightlines 10 and Reading and Writing for Success  textbooks handy, as you may find their glossaries helpful as well.

Tutorials and other resources will also be hyperlinked in red. Click on these to watch them and take notes. These resources are integral components of the course content and are your virtual "teacher" so take the time to view them.

At the bottom of each assignment page you will see a series of tabs:

  • If you read the assignment and feel yourself stressing, look at the  EXTRA HELP  section. There will be extra information, and some student samples that will help you get started.
  • If you read the assignment and think, β€œSeems pretty easy. I’d like a bit more of a challenge”, check the  EXTRA CHALLENGE  tab. There are alternative assignments or sample student work that will challenge you. Choose any assignment in that list and get additional feedback from your marker. These are not for bonus marks. You may find the feedback helpful in developing your English Language Arts skills. You are marked using the same rubric for the assignment it replaces.
With each assignment, you will see a tab called  ASSESSMENT. The information provided there will show you how your work will be assessed as well as how to name your assignments. Review the rubrics carefully, as they will give you guidance in preparing your assignments....

Some assignments have a certain template I want you to follow. In tabs labelled DOCUMENT LINKS you will find the provided worksheets available in three formats: Google docs, Microsoft Word, and PDF. You do not have to submit the same assignment in each format - choose the format that works best for you!
