Now that you have viewed your chosen film (hopefully more than once!), it is time to dig deeper into the characters. The audience relates to characters by witnessing their reactions to their circumstances. In some cases, characters undergo a permanent change as a result of their experiences. Some characters' struggle with change has them making progress and then falling behind, uncertain as to how to proceed next. These experiences are made authentic when they are plausible, consistent with the characters’ development in the film and within the context of the film as a whole.

Now, you will complete critical response essay to your chosen film, exploring the main character's transformation in relation to one of these two questions:

  • What influence do others have on who a person becomes? (How did the main character transform because of outside influences?)

  • How important is it to pursue one's passions? (How did pursuing their passions influence the character's transformation?)
