Course Essentials and Assessment Weights

This course is worth five Alberta high school credits and should take you approximately 125 hours to complete. Contact your teacher to set up a timeline to help you finish the course to suit your academic goals.

English 10-2 has three units.  Each lesson contains the instructions you need to complete your assignments. Complete each task in the given order, following the instructions carefully, as necessary skill building occurs as you progress through your course work. As you complete each assignment, submit it to the Moodle assignment space for assessment. Make sure you finish the submission process until you reach the message that says you will no longer be able to make changes to your draft, as this last step is the actual submission of your work and once this step of the submission process is complete, your teacher will receive notification that you have made a work submission.

Important:  All course information links are red in colour and will become underlined when you hover your mouse over them. Red words will either be linked to your course glossary (? appears when you hover mouse) or linked to  a course information page that is necessary to complete the assignment work.

Open-Book Quizzes occur throughout the course to help you review and to reinforce important course content, as well as to demonstrate your learned knowledge and skills. The quizzes are open book, which means you are encouraged to use your course materials to help you answer the questions. Take enough time to give your best responses and check your answers with the available course materials.

This course has two exams, and both require supervision. When you have completed all of your course work leading up to the Exit Interviews at the end of Unit 1 (Midterm Exam), and again at the end of Unit 3 (Final Exam), you will contact your teacher to complete the applicable Exit Interview.  These discussions will allow you to reflect on your course learning, as well as to discuss preparation for each exam.

The course assessment is weighted as follows:
Title Duration (weeks) Weighting
All Assignment Work
60%

Exam One (Midterm) Supervised Exam

Exam Two (Final)  Supervised Exam 2 Hours Recommended  15%

Note:  While some assignments are awarded raw scores, the raw score total for each assignment does not determine the weighting of it in your gradebook. Rather, each raw score grade is converted to a percentage score and the actual weighting for each assignment is not according to individual mark value or percentage. The weighting of each assignment is set within your gradebook according to the necessary time estimated to complete the work, and the course learning objectives presented. Review your grade book to see how each assignment is weighted.

Please review the next course page very carefully as it contains important information about policies regarding exams and possible course withdrawal for non-working or stalled students.
