Finding Myself in Verse

Are you one of those people who gives a deep groan when you hear the word "poetry?" Some people love to read, recite, and even sing poetry, and others...well...perhaps not so much....  Within these poetry pages, may each of you find some new sense of knowledge or emotional reaction that you may grasp onto and hold in the depths of your mind forever! May you grow within yourself!

Poetry is a concise (very short) form of writing, that can take years to perfect as the poet strives for perfection. Working to get each and every little meaningful word "just right" is no easy task! Good poetry poignantly appeals to the senses of the audience, while presenting a multitude of meanings. Poetry, like all other texts, has messages and themes that poets wish to share with others. What is really "cool" about poetry is the fact that we can read several different poems in one sitting, and we can easily join what I call the "cheap ticket roller coaster ride" -- one minute you're up, and the next minute...well, who knows... until you flip the page?!

"Poetry has a way of taking life by the throat...."
 ~  Robert Frost

"Poetry is emotion, passion, love, grief--everything that is human. It is not by zombies for zombies."   ~  F. Sionil Jose

"Poetry is a phantom script telling how rainbows are made and why rainbows go away."     ~  Carl Sandburg

"A poet can survive anything but a misprint...."
 ~  Oscar Wilde
