Viewing Film
The experience of viewing a film has changed over the years. Whether you rent a movie to watch with friends, download it to your device, or experience it with multi-dimensional graphics and surround sound in a large theatre, many of the basic cinematic techniques have remained. Seeing a film for entertainment can sometimes be a passive experience, that requires as much thought as the viewer wishes to put forth. However, studying a film, as a literary text, involves more purposeful and critical thinking. Exploring a film in more depth allows the viewer to look beyond the entertainment factor to the actual creation techniques of the piece. As with all literary texts, a film requires high level knowledge of various filming techniques in order to effectively convey its intended information and themes.
