Many jobs require employees to make phone calls to customers and other businesses. Often, businesses will have someone answering the telephone that the caller can talk to immediately. Sometimes, however, callers have to leave a message. This might be either with someone other than the person they wanted to speak to or on an answering machine or voice-mail system.
When we make a phone call, we should have our main point in mind when we call. That will help us communicate our message clearly and in an organized fashion. This is the same as if we were to write our message or say it to someone face to face.
We also have to include the necessary information to allow our intended receiver to return our call. The message without the phone number to call may have to be discarded!

All phone messages should include the following:
- your full name
- the person the message is for
- your full phone number
- the business you are working for or the position you have at the company
- the reason for calling (your main message)
Having an appropriate answering machine or voice-mail message on your phone is important as well. You may receive an important call from a prospective employer one day, so you should make sure your greeting is professional!
