When we talk about the media, we are referring to the many sources of information and entertainment that surround us. We may think of the Internet, television, radio, newspapers, magazines, billboards, posters, movies, etc.
As with any message, various media are intended for various audiences. Advertisers know this, so they tailor their advertisements to the audience they want to attract. This is called the target audience.

- If a product is intended for children, advertisers want children and their parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents to know about the product. A very common way for advertisers to let children know about their products is through television.
- If a product is intended for business people with a lot of money, the advertiser wants those people to know about this product. In this case, the ad might appear in business magazines.
