Lesson 16 — Activity 2: Analyze Audiovisual and Audiosound Advertising for Products

The thoughts that go into creating advertising for print formats are also involved in creating ads for audiovisual formats. These formats include TV, the Internet, movie previews, and so on. Of course, AV ads have the added components of sound and action.

Important considerations:

  • The name of the product. Advertisers want products to be easily recognized and remembered. They also want people to think about the product very positively.
  • The context in which the product is advertised (for example, the TV channel, the time of day it appears, etc.). Companies want their products to be advertised to the people most likely to buy them.
  • The appearance of the ad. An ad has to be noticed by the consumer to be effective! Many options are available to develop visually appealing TV ads.
  • The language of the ad. The advertiser wants us to think the product is something we have to buy to improve our lives in some way.
  • The sound effects or music used in the ad. The advertiser wants us to associate the product with what we hear when we watch the ad.

Most of the details that advertisers take into consideration as they develop an ad for print or audiovisual ads are also applied to audio ads, but because the visual element is missing, the advertiser has to pay special attention to the sounds of the ad.
