Lesson 18 — Activity 1: Choosing a Job

There are many things to think about when you are looking for a job. While we may not always work at the jobs of our dreams, we do want to try to work at a job that we will enjoy or find interesting. It is also good to work at jobs that will give us some experience that we can use in other jobs in the future.

If you think about and answer some of the following questions, you might be able to think of some areas of work that would suit you. You should try to answer the following questions about yourself honestly and in detail:

  • What do I like to do?
  • What am I good at doing?
  • What do I find interesting?
  • What do I know a lot about already?
  • What would I like to learn more about?
  • What skills do I have?
  • What training do I have?
  • What training could I take?
  • What is important to me?

The better we know ourselves, the easier it is to find jobs that will be good fits for us. We should keep our minds open, though. Sometimes when we try something we never thought we'd like, we find out that we actually enjoy it!
