There are many different ways that we can find jobs. Some of the strategies we might try include the following:

  • Talk to friends about their jobs and find out if more employees are needed where they work.
  • Talk to parents and relatives and see if they know of any job openings.
  • Go through the phone book's yellow pages to identify subjects or fields of interest to you in the town or city where you are; then, call the employers to ask if they are hiring.
  • Go personally to businesses and employers and ask if they need help.
  • Look for "Help Wanted" signs.
  • Read the "Help Wanted" ads in the newspaper or view job sites online.
  • Go to the Human Resources Development Canada office in your community or check their website.
  • Go to the Hire-a-Student office if there is one in your community or ask at your school's counselling office.
  • Start your own business and advertise your services through posters and newspapers.

You may also want to think about where you'd like to work and how often (part- time or full- time) you'd like to work. This will help you narrow your job options further.

There are a lot of possibilities for finding employment as long as you are willing to try different methods. You may not get hired immediately, but you will improve your communication skills and make contacts with people who may be able to help you find work.
If you keep an open mind and are willing to try various things, you will likely be able to find a job you will enjoy.

What will likely be the most successful way for you to go about looking for a job?
