Lesson 36 — Activity 3: Writing the Report


In this final activity, you will use the information you have learned about conducting research to write a short report on a topic of your choice.

You know from your work over the last few activities that you need to go through many steps to write a research report.

  • To begin, you need to decide on ideas for a topic. In Lesson 35 — Activity 1, you looked at ways to brainstorm ideas for topics. In this activity, you will have several possible topics, and you will choose the one you find most interesting.
  • Lesson 35 — Activity 2 considered the importance of deciding on your purpose when writing your research report. Now, after you have chosen your topic, you will decide whether you want to give the reader information, persuade the reader to think a certain way, or present the facts in a balanced way to allow the reader to make a decision about the topic.


  • Lesson 35 — Activity 3 reviewed the need to find and choose resources carefully. In this activity, you will work with your teacher to choose several sources of information that best support the points you want to make.
  • Lesson 36 — Activity 1 covered the importance of summarizing information. This is an important part of developing a report using information from the sources available.
  • Lesson 36 — Activity 2 reviewed recording sources. This is an important lesson to review because you must identify your sources for your report.
