English Language Arts 20-1 (English 20-1) assumes that students have succeeded in English Language Arts 10-1 and are preparing for post-secondary programs such as university. English 20-1 is designed to lead to English 30-1 to fulfill high school graduation requirements in Alberta. English 20-1 incorporates listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing, and representing.

The course has two main outcomes:

1. Students will understand and appreciate the significance and artistry of literature.

2. Students will learn to use language confidently for various purposes and various audiences.
