Essential Information

English 20-1 is divided over four modules of study. The content of these four modules are addressed in the seven Instruction Workbooks for students who choose to complete the Instruction Workbooks (see table below). Students who choose to complete the entire course online do not need these workbooks.

This course is worth five Alberta high school credits and should take you approximately 125 hours to complete. Contact your teacher to set up a timeline to help you finish the course to suit your goals.

Quizzes occur throughout the course to help you review and to reinforce important course content. They are open book, which means you can use your course materials to help you answer the questions.

This course has two exams. Both require supervision. Contact your teacher to make arrangements to write these exams when you are ready to do so.

The modules and exams are weighted as follows:

Note: Both Exam 1 and Exam 2 are summative exams. Exam 1 is a summative assessment of your work in Modules 1 and 2. Exam 2 is a summative assessment for your work in Modules 3 and 4. Should you score less than 40% on either of these exams, you will be required to write an appeal exam. Should you score less than 40% on your appeal exam, that exam mark will count as your mark for the half of the course assessed by that exam.
