Essential Questions

Several questions will frame your work throughout the course. You will be prompted to consider these questions while you study a variety of texts. You do not need to respond to them at this moment, but they are explained below for your future reference.



WHAT INFLUENCE DO OTHERS HAVE ON WHO WE BECOME?

It is nearly impossible to live an entirely solitary existence. We have relationships with the people around us, whether it is a server in a restaurant, a co-worker, a distant family member, or a close friend. Consider how others influence what you say and do in different situations. Reflect on how you influence those around you.




HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO PURSUE OUR PASSIONS?

As children, we are determined to "do what we want, when we want." This question, however, asks you to move further. How important is it to pursue a career and relationships that develop your interests and support your values?



WHAT DRIVES OUR NEED TO BELONG?

As much as we may like to be independent, we do feel the need to belong in social, family, and employment situations. What factors drive this need for acceptance? Are these factors the same for everyone? Explore.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO "LIVE WELL"?

We are all motivated to have a secure existence where we are healthy and safe. Beyond the basic necessities of life, we have aspirations that influence the choices we make. What inspires your future plans? What are your hopes for the future?
