Essential Questions Chart for Film Study

Ideally, it is best if you can set aside time to watch the film twice: once for overall impressions, and a second time with a critical eye to observe in greater detail.

The Assignment

When you watch the film the first time, you need to have a pen and the Initial Viewing Chart handy to record at least seven questions that come to mind. This first viewing is not to have you record detailed observations; rather, let yourself experience the film as a whole.

After you have completed this table, return to your original Essential Questions Chart , and respond to the second row: โ€œWhile I watch the film, I am beginning to think.โ€

Note:  You will not submit these charts for marks.  Rather, you will use them when it comes time to complete the final assignments of this module.  Taking notes as you watch the films now will save you a great deal of time later.
Complete and download the Initial Viewing Chart.  If you have not already started working on the Essential Questions Chart, you can download it now.
A sample entry has been provided for you at the top of this chart.

Scene/Moment

My Question

Now I have seen the movie once, how has my question been answered?

Stranger than Fiction, opening scene

Why aren't the actor's and director's names given in the opening credits?

Iโ€™m guessing itโ€™s because the audience is supposed to focus on what he is thinking. I didnโ€™t really notice what the text said in this scene, so Iโ€™ll need to go back and review it more closely. I might need to check the bonus features to see if the director shares more insight.
