Lesson 1:
Managerial Organization
Middle Management
Middle management is responsible for assigning work to front-line managers in such a way that the planning and operating decisions of top management are performed in a timely fashion. On organizational charts, middle management is located between the top management of a firm and the front-line supervisors. During recent years, many companies and governments have reduced the number of middle managers because of economic downturns. These include department managers, plant supervisors, office managers, and regional managers. Reducing and/or eliminating middle management has allowed cost-cutting while keeping front-line workers employed to produce or provide services.
