Controlling

Controlling ensures that actual performance is according to plan and that organizational objectives are being met.


Items considered in the controlling function include cost, profits, quality of products or services, adherence to production and distribution timelines, staff performance, and staff wellness. Managers conduct ongoing evaluations to determine if the goals are being met and, if not, what changes are necessary to achieve goals.

Many businesses are recognizing that stress leads not only to illness in individuals but also to mis-management and poor performance. Staff health is enhanced by scheduling realistic workloads and having clear lines of authority and responsibility.

Why is Controlling Important?


Managers need to know if the developed action plans are completed successfully. Evaluating the success of these plans periodically allows changes to be made if objectives are not being met.
