Responsibilities Important?
Administration is another term for management and involves the numerous activities that managers do to keep a business or organization running smoothly.
One of the most important functions of a management team is to coordinate all the business functions described in this lesson. Departments can work separately, but they must communicate and work together to be effective.

Imagine that you are the Production Manager for a large clothing manufacturing business.
List some of the tasks for which you would be responsible. With what other departments would you have to collaborate, and why? When you have completed your list, click the words Production Manager to compare your answers.
- Be aware of what materials, supplies, and equipment must be ordered – fabric, buttons, zippers, sewing machines, etc.
- Keep accurate inventory.
- Hire, supervise, and train or oversee training of employees; cooperate with Human Resources .
- Work with Purchasing to order all raw materials and supplies needed.
- Work with Purchasing to order new equipment.
- Maintain the equipment; contact maintenance personnel.
- Develop production schedules.
- Construct a budget for the department and share it with Finance and Accounting.
- Keep records of all costs of equipment and share with Finance and Accounting.
- Keep record of all costs of raw materials and share with Finance and Accounting.
- Set standards of quality and quantity.
- Check the quality of the completed clothing – quality control.
- Communicate with Research and Development to know if new products are to be produced.
- Check with Marketing regarding customer satisfaction or changes in design necessary to increase sales. Be prepared to stop producing unpopular designs.
