The most important processes in the distribution channel are transportation and transportation logistics (i.e., moving goods from the point of production to the point of sale, undamaged, on time, and on budget).

As the global sales market expands, more complex transportation logistics are needed to move goods from producer to consumer.

Transportation wholesalers (e.g., FedEx and Maersk Group) already have in place the infrastructure and expertise necessary to move goods successfully worldwide. It is extremely unlikely a single producer would be able to match these skills cost effectively.
