Transportation is required to move products along the distribution channel. It is the most expensive distribution function. Logistics is the commercial activity of transporting goods to customers. The logistics associated with transportation are a vital component in commercial success. Products must reach the consumer.

On completion of this unit, you will be able to
  • explain the role of transportation within the channels of distribution,
  • illustrate the modes of transportation for different manufactured products, and
  • compare the advantages and disadvantages of various modes of transportation.
