Canada's gross domestic product (GDP) measures
  • all goods and services produced within Canada's borders
  • those goods and services produced by foreign companies within Canada's borders
  • any goods and services consumed within Canada, and
  • those goods and services exported elsewhere.

Only final demand goods and services are included. Therefore, GDP is a measure of Canada's total economic activity. An increase in GDP is interpreted as a sign that the economy is doing well.

Despite earlier economic difficulties, in 2017 Canada led the G7 nations in GDP growth, and Alberta led all other provinces.
