Lesson 7: Emergency Response Planning

An emergency can be any event that requires immediate attention such as an evacuation, a rescue, medical emergencies, spills or workplace violence.  A serious emergency has the potential to put a company out of business.
Element 6
involves preparing for and responding to an emergency; a good emergency plan can reduce the risk of injury and loss.

Planning for emergencies, in advance, is important.  An emergency response plan will:

  • protect the health, safety and lives of those on the work site

  • minimize business losses

  • address the actions that the employer and worker need to take to ensure everyone's safety
