Key Concepts
- Before work begins at the workplace, it must be assessed by the employer; existing and potential hazards must be identified
- The first step in preventing incidents or accidents on the work-site, is identification of all hazards.
- Employers must assess all potential and existing hazards and indicate the control methods to be used to control or remove the hazard
- Controlling a hazard is important to reduce the hazard so it is not a risk to workers' health and safety.
- Hazards fall into one of five different categories: physical, chemical, biological, psychosocial, ergonomic
- Control methods fall into one of three categories: Engineering controls, Administrative controls, Personal Protective Equipment
