Ergonomic Hazards

When learning about Ergonomic Hazards, it's important to know:

  • Ergonomics is about the fit between people and the jobs they perform, the tools they use and the environment they work in 
  • Ergonomic hazards occur when your body position or working conditions affect your body
  • Ergonomic hazards are often difficult to identify because you may not notice them immediately
  • Ergonomic hazards occur when the type of work you do, puts a strain on the body
  • Ergonomics is often call human factors

  • Working in the same position all day.

  • Desks, chairs, tables, equipment and tools that are not adjustable to a worker's shape and size.

  • Inappropriate job and workstation design.

  • Improperly adjusted work benches, desks, keyboards.

  • Harvesting crops by hand.

  • Poor lighting

  • Repetitive Strain - operating machinery for long periods of time i.e. combines, tractors, jackhammers
