Safety is the Most Important Part of Any Job.

  • Your job is to know your role in Occupational Health and Safety(OHS).

  • Both the employer and employee have a role to play in regard to Occupational Health and Safety

Employee and Employer Responsibilities 

  • Work in compliance with OHS acts and regulations
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and clothing as directed by employer
  • Report workplace hazards and dangers to supervisor
  • Work in a manner required by the employer and use the prescribed safety equipment
  • Take reasonable care to protect the health and safety of themselves and other workers
  • Participate in training for safe equipment operation
  • Use safety devices, such as machine guards, and never take them off or alter them
  • Must look after the safety of workers    
  • Ensure workers use prescribed protective equipment devices 
  • Advise workers of potential and actual hazards
  • Apply every reasonable precaution for the protection of workers
  • Must keep equipment in safe working order
  • Must ensure workers have the training they need to do their jobs safely
  • Must ensure that dangerous chemicals are properly labelled and stored

  • Right to refuse unsafe work
  • Right to participate in workplace health and safety activities through the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) or as a worker health and safety representative
  • Right to know and be informed about the actual and potential dangers in the workplace
