Lesson 7: WCB and the Employee

How does Workers' Compensation Help Employers?

WCB helps workers, who are injured on the job, by providing one or more of the following benefits:

  • This benefit is based on the amount of money workers earned at the time they were injured.
  • Disabled workers can earn up to 90% of their net pay, up to a maximum amount.
  • All medical expenses, related to the workplace accident, are paid by the WCB.
  • WCB case managers talk to the employer, employee, health care providers and then make decisions about whether the injured worker can return to the same job they were doing before the injury.
  • The WCB managers also make decisions about what type of work the injured worker can perform.
  • In consultation with the employer, the WCB case manager can discuss whether the injured worker can work less hours, perform fewer or different tasks, or return to work earlier.

    • If workers can not return to their jobs, because of workplace injuries, the WCB helps these workers learn other types of work.
    • Workers may get job training, academic and job training.
    • If a worker dies from workplace injuries, the WCB will help pay funeral costs.
    • The deceased workers' family will also get the money, that the worker would have received if still living.
