Lesson 8: WCB Forms and Resources

Did You Know?

  • Employers can be fined for not reporting a workers' injury.
  • Injured workers can receive WCB benefits as long as they cannot return to work.
  • Self-employed people, who do not hire others, are not employers according to the WCB.
  • A worker is still insured by the WCB if an employer does not pay the premiums.
  • When you work through a recognized Work Experience Program, at your school, you are covered under WCB by your school, not your employer.
  • If workers are injured, they will be covered no matter what their age.
  • The WCB covers workers, no matter how they are paid.
  • If an employer doesn't pay their WCB premiums, their workers are still covered when a workplace injury happens.  The WCB will make employers pay premiums they owe.
  • Employers can be fined if they tell and reward a worker to not report an injury.

Forms and Resources

There are two important forms which are to be used by a worker and by an employer in the event of injury on a worksite.

It is crucial that you not only know about these forms, but that you also become at least somewhat familiar with them. In the event of injury, one's stress level can be high, and you sure don't need the increased stress of dealing with unfamiliar forms.

Specifically, you should look at each of these two forms in detail by using the following two links. Each gives you a printable copy, and it is advisable that you actually print them so that you can practice filling them out.

Very likely you will need additional instructions for completing these forms. The following two links will also give you the forms, although not printable. But the accompanying instructions should prove to be very useful.

ยท          for the employer:  Injury Report with Instructions

Should you need additional detailed information regarding how the WCB affects workers and employers, their respective handbooks are an excellent source.

ยท          the  Worker Handbook (WCB-ALBERTA)

ยท          the Employer Handbook (WCB-ALBERTA)   (when you click on this link, you will see the PDF version of the Employer Handbook under "Guides and Publications")

And should you ever need authoritative and exact legal information regarding the WCB for Alberta, here is a link to the ACT itself:

WCB staff review the completed forms to see what benefits and services you may be able to receive. If you aren't satisfied with the WCB's decision about your benefits or services, you can appeal the decision.
