Question 2b. The faster-moving particles of the hot object collide with the slower moving particles of the cold object. The slower moving particles speed up and the cold object heats up.
Question 3. Radiation from the bonfire will heat only the side that is facing the fire. The side that is facing away from the fire will not be heated by radiation from the fire; it is cooler than the side facing the fire.
The air above the fire is heated and becomes less dense. This hot air rises and is replaced by cool air rushing in from the sides. This convection current carries the flames and smoke upwards.
Question 4. The metal spoon feels colder than the wooden spoon because it transfers the heat more quickly from your hand than the wooden spoon does.Â
