Lesson 3.3 - Survival Kit

Canadian winters can produce storms that make driving very dangerous.  A storm can develop very quickly and make it impossible to continue driving.  Being stuck in a raging storm for many hours will make survival difficult if you are not prepared.  Always take extra winter clothing on trips in the winter.  A winter survival kit is something that every vehicle should have.  What are the things that a winter survival kit should have?  Read the investigation "A Winter Survival Car Kit" on page 122 of your textbook.

Answers to Questions:

Question 1. The picture shows a person that is in trouble.  What did this fellow do wrong?

Driving off the road and into the ditch was one error.  What ever the reason was, accidents like this are common, it could easily happen to you.  He is not properly dressed for the weather and is now getting very cold, if his truck is not running and help doesn't arrive quickly, he may suffer frostbite or even freeze to death.

Question 2. What did this fellow do right?

He has a shovel to try and dig himself out.  That is about the only thing that he got right on this trip.
