You have learned how the digestive and circulatory systems work.  These two systems must work together to enable your body to function. 

Read Working Together - The Digestive System and the Circulatory System on page 189 of your textbook.  Also, read the Did You Know on that page. Then, answer the following questions.

The five ways that the digestive and circulatory systems work together are:

        1. Nutrients enter the bloodstream from the digestive system through the thin capillary walls.
        2. The circulatory system carried digested food substances to the cells of the body.
        3. The nutrients travel around, over, and through each cell in the body.
        4. Waste molecules pass from the cells back into the bloodstream through the capillary walls.
        5. The circulatory system helps dispose of waste products and toxic materials such as salts.

Question 2. About how many times a minute does your heart beat?

Your heart beats about 72 times a minute.

Question 3. About how many times a year does your heart beat?

Your heart beats about 38 000 000 times a year.

Question 4. How many litres of blood will your heart pump in a day?

Your heart pumps over 10 000 litres of blood a day.

Question 5. How many times more blood will your heart pump in a day than you use water in your house?

Your heart will pump more than 10 times as much blood in a day as you use water in your house.
