Lesson 3.3 - Soil

In this activity, you will analyze soil after you have placed it into water, shaken it, and allowed it to settle.  If are doing this in winter, you may have difficulty getting good soil. You could add a kettle of hot water to a flower bed in the garden to thaw some dirt for the experiment. Living in an apartment may complicate obtaining soil, but you may have a friendly neighbour who could help! If doing the experiment is impossible for you, think of what might happen if you actually did the experiment.  Use materials you have available.

Read the activity on Soil on page 280 of your textbook.  Do the nine "What to Do" steps on page 280 of the textbook, and answer the following question.
