Lesson 4.1 - Biomes

A biome is a large geographic area with distinct plants and animals.  Alberta has four distinct areas that have unique characteristics.  The various biomes have distinct temperature variations, amounts of precipitation and different soil types.  As a result, different plants and animals flourish in different areas.  Read "Biomes" on page 281 of your textbook.

The answer to this question will vary depending on your location.  In Alberta, you would be in one of the four areas described.  Page 281 of the textbook gives some biotic and abiotic features about each region.  Should you live outside Alberta, you may have to search the internet to find out about your biome.
