Lesson 4.2 - Garbage Delight
Lesson 4.2 - Garbage Delight
Several alternatives are possible to throwing garbage away and filling landfill sites. Three of these alternatives can be given by three words that start with r: reduce, re-use, and recycle.Â
Waste into a landfill site can be reduced by taking organic wastes and composting them so they can be used as fertilizer in gardens or fields. Many other things can be re-used: magazines, jars, and plastic bags. Other things can be recycled: cans, plastic, paper, and other items.Â
What is done often depends on our willingness to take a few minutes to sort our garbage. However, it also depends on the expense of recycling things. Some items such as batteries are very uneconomical to recycle. Some areas do not have adequate recycling facilities.
