Theme 2: Introduction

The Path to a Canadian Identity

In Theme 1, you learned about a nation that was the first to live in Canada: the Aboriginal peoples of our country. Those lessons helped you to appreciate the contribution of these people to Canadian identity.

In the lessons in this theme, you will first learn about two cultural groups who came to settle in what would become Canada and appreciate how these groups also added to the identity of our country. You will then learn how Canada became a nation and about other cultural groups who have made Canada their home. To end this theme, you will learn about the policies that the Government of Canada has implemented in order to promote national unity.
