Understanding Ultranationalism


In Theme 1, you learned what nationalism is and how it can be expressed. In Theme 2, you learned that common experiences bring people together and form a sense of nationalism. In Theme 2, you also learned about some of the experiences that Canadians shared as our country developed.
 
In this theme, you will explore ultranationalism and learn how a nation’s pursuit of national interests can lead to ultranationalism. You will look at war and why it is fought and examine the impact that two world wars had on Canada and the world. To end this theme, you will learn about treaties and alliances.
