Theme 4: Review

Global interdependence has expanded very rapidly in recent years. This has happened mainly because of advances in technology. Although separated by oceans, nations have been brought closer together by these advances. Distances have been shrunk by more efficient transportation that has expanded world trade greatly. Technology has developed methods of communication that make interaction easy regardless of where people live. These changes in technology are influencing the acceptance of the concept of a global community.

One of the biggest challenges facing our global community is the threat to our environment. As the world's population increases and more nations develop, energy consumption also increases. Each nation has a role in changing wasteful and polluting practices that add to this problem. Canada is part of this problem, and it must be involved in the solution. No nation can remain isolated in today's world. Interdependence is inevitable.
