What I Need to Know
Put your thinking into a useable action plan.
A salesperson must build a strong foundation based on integrity and must develop personal standards. Making an ongoing, working, and tangible expectation list keeps things in perspective as well as tracks goals, instills confidence, and maintains momentum.

Write what you expect of yourself as a salesperson; include items such as to be enthusiastic, to be knowledgeable, to be personable, etc.
Having your expectations written makes them more significant and/or meaningful to you. Writing is a cognitive process that adds structure to your ideas and helps identify priorities.

Ask yourself what you mean by the words and phrases on your expectation list. For instance, being knowledgeable means knowing the product and key questions to ask the customer. This clarification gives depth and breadth to your expectations that will produce favourable results. By stating the reasons your expectations are important, you establish how they can have positive or negative effects.

A strong belief system makes your expectations more obtainable and gives you faith in your potential. We all have potential to grow, learn, and succeed. Setbacks occur – risk-taking involves failure. Getting out of your comfort zone takes courage. However, the developmental process promotes lifelong transferable skills.

A successful sales plan is given from the perspective of the value that you attach to the work you do. For example, being conscientious, virtuous, and in good spirit will help you to live successfully to your potential. By considering personal expectations, you have identified traits that are important for success.
