Lesson 4: Sales Support and Non-Selling Duties
Loss/Waste
Preventing loss of profit because of waste is very important for the success of a business. Waste comes in several forms. It can be as simple as waste paper or as serious as toxic waste. All companies generate some forms of waste. Minimizing this waste maximizes profits.
Businesses strive for efficiency. For example, a successful catering company will
- know the exact number of portions ordered
- stock accordingly
- weigh, measure, or size each portion
- handle all food with care
- deliver at the appropriate temperature and time
Salespeople can help by knowing the business well and making suggestions for improvements that can help to reduce and/or prevent waste. That, in turn, increases profits and the stability of the business for which they sell. If that business is more stable and secure, opportunities for success as a salesperson will be strengthened.
