Lesson 4: Planning the Presentation

Sensory Appeal

Sensory appeal is effective in sales presentations. People comprehend best when as many of the five senses as possible are involved.  Individuals often are auditory, visual, or tactile-dominant learners.

The best learning is experiential. In the sales demonstrations you provide, you may not be able to involve all the senses, but you can try to get your customer as close to the actual experience as possible.

  • Give people a real or imagined experience to teach them about the product.
  • Use creativity and imagination.
  • Always have customers see, touch, and try the product whenever possible.
  • Use visual aids and samples in sales presentations.

Keep the environment clean and odour-free and use good judgment to make a pleasing atmosphere for the senses.  The longer customers stay, the more likely they are to purchase.  And remember that strong sales demonstrations take strategic planning.  Be sure to put adequate planning into your sales demonstration.
